Exhibition – October 6th 2018 to January 6th 2019
The second exhibition, hosted in the collegiate Saint-Martin as part of a partnership between the Département de Maine-et-Loire and the Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain (FRAC) des Pays de la Loire, follows the course set last year: demonstrating the profound links which bind heritage and creation..
After Delphine Coindet, this year’s edition welcomes Richard Fauguet. The artist started working during the end of the 80’s, creating series and variations to unravel a rich inventory composed with materials and objects of daily life. Fauguet has a particular interest for humble and ordinary objects, which he collects, combines unexpectedly and mixes up with insight. The exhibition presents a fair amount of these objects: shells, glass tableware, porcelain cups and jugs, ping-pong tables and balls, glowing globes, chimney pipes, formica stools, etc.. Made with collected items, the collages generate silhouettes. In the artist’s hands, the associated objects take on a new appearance, move and embody their new and self-evident identity.
Poetic and amusing, the artist’s creations merrily blur the line between “learned” and “mass” culture. With a subtle touch, they integrate the varied origins of images and materials alike. Thus, intertwining, mixing up, merging, associating, hacking, hoaxing, honouring and fooling, Richard Fauguet manages to echo our imaginary worlds..
